Traveling with Kids

I recently had a fellow Army wife send me a message stating that it's much easier and less expensive for my husband and I to travel here in Europe because we don't have children. That is very true! I don't know what it's like and it doesn't usually cross my mind. I don't think about paying for each child, or where a good restaurant is that will have kid friendly food. I don't think about the extra bags and luggage needed or needing to find a restroom to change diapers. So although I don't have any personal experience traveling with children I did find some great websites with some "traveling with kids" tips.

    1. Sorry for the late reply, I didn't get a notification about your post. We had 2 different companies... Our HHG were packed up in NC and our UB was packed up in MO. I honestly don't know who did our HHG, but they were terrible. For our UB we had North American (Duncan moving and storage)and I thought they were great! Are you military? If you are then you don't get to pick who moves your stuff, they assign a company of their choice.

  2. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to write all of this up!! We just got orders to Germany and your information is really helpful! I was wondering what your experience/time frame was for waiting in the hotel until you got your housing?? Also, it looks like the place we will be is so little that they don't have a hotel on base so they just have temporary housing. Do you know if with temporary housing they treat it like it's your home-where you pay your OHA to them for the temporary housing or if they treat it like you are in a hotel so you don't have to pay your OHA and you still receive TLA while you are in the temporary housing...hopefully this makes sense! Thank you SO much for all your help!!

    1. Oh My!! I just got this! I'm so sorry I didn't respond sooner! I haven't been receiving emails when people post comments!

How exciting that you're coming to Germany! It is a wonderful place to live! So glad my information is helpful to you! Living in temporary housing is different for everyone. A lot of the time it depends on the time of year you're PCSing. When we arrived in Germany we spent 16 days in the hotel. There were no government leased housing available when we arrived so we have to go out looking for a house on the economy. I don't know what happens if they don't have a hotel. I would assume you'd be in temporary housing and still receiving TLA. But if you're in a house your TLA will not be as much. For us, our hotel room didn't have a kitchen so we received more TLA to help with meals. I would try to find someone at your specific location to get more info on that. Hope that helps a little and best of luck with your move!
